Today we are going to create a metallic shiny lock icon, can be used as a internet security, data locking or any other projects regarding security and privacy. so lets start making it.

Step 1.

Open a new document of 1280 x 1024 px resolution, then create a new layer and apply some light radial gradient to it

Step 2.

Now create a new layer and select Round Rectangular Tool and set its radius to 800 px and draw a big shape and fill it with any color as shown

Step 3.

Now reduce its pixel radius to 400 and draw a shape in the centre of your previous shape

Step 4.

Now Press Ctrl+Enter to turn this path into marching ants then hit Delete key to remove it from center

Step 5.

Now select Rectangular marquee tool and make selection as shown below and press delete key

Step 6.

Now open blending options and apply the given effects to this layer

Now you will have something like that.

Step 7.

Now lets create its lower part, create a new layer and again select round rectangular tool and set its radius to 8 px and and draw a given shape
then fill it with any color

Step 8.

Open Blending options of that layer and apply the given effects

Now thats what you have a nice shiny lock

Step 9.

if you dont want to go further, you can simply save that lock, but we are going to make it look more awesome,duplicate your layer and clear its layer style then select Pen Tool and make path as shown below

Step 10.

Now press Ctrl+enter to turn this path into marching ants and press delete key

Step 11.

Now apply the given effects to your layer by opening blending options

Now you will have something like that

Step 12.

Simply duplicate this layer, drag it down to bottom and rotate it and shrink it by pressing Ctrl+T

Step 13.

Apply the given effects to this layer

Step 14.

Now Create a new layer and select rectangular marquee tool and draw rectangular selection on your lock and fill it with Yellow Color #ffcb3e

Step 15.

Now create a new layer and select Polygonal Lasso Tool and make the given shape and fill it with black

Step 16.

Duplicate this layer and place it as shown and cut the extra outer part

Step 17.

Select these layers yellow and black and merge them by pressing Ctrl+E then go to layers palette and change its blending mode to Linear Burn

Step 18.

Now create a new layer and select rectangular marquee tool to draw a thin line over the strip layer and fill it with # 6c5816, simply duplicate and drag it to the bottom and fill it with #5d5a51 as shown

Step 19.

Simply change blending mode of your top layer to Color Dodge and lower its opacity to 60% and change blending mode of your bottom layer to Hard Light as shown

This is our Final Image after apply shadow under it.
